Veneers are essentially covers for the visible front surface of your teeth.

When teeth are chipped, stained, or crooked, they’re a relatively unintrusive option. With modern materials, our team will expertly restore and improve your smile!

When would I need a veneer?

Dental veneers are useful to treat a wide range of issues, both practical and cosmetic.

For instance, veneers can be used to repair chipped teeth and prevent further problems. They are also effective solutions for slightly crooked teeth when braces are not an option. Furthermore, they’re very effective at restoring a single stained tooth.

What are the advantages of veneers?

  • Fix damage due to decay or injury.
  • Fix gaps caused by crooked or misaligned teeth.
  • The procedure is more comfortable than the alternatives.

How are teeth prepared for veneers?

Veneers typically require two visits to the dentist. The first visit will be used to prepare your tooth and take impressions, the actual veneer will be installed at the second visit.

Procedure

  • A small amount of the tooth is required to help the veneer fit and adhere.
  • An impression of your teeth will be taken. This is so that the veneer can be precisely matched to the shape of your teeth and fit accurately.
  • The veneer will be prepared and colour-matched to your teeth.
  • At your second appointment, the veneer will be bonded and secured.

The veneer will feel like your normal tooth. If the veneer was used to treat a crooked tooth, your smile would look much more even.

Dental Veneer Treatment FAQs

1. Will I need a temporary veneer between visits?

In more minor treatments, a temporary veneer shouldn’t be necessary.

The amount of preparation is minimal, so the tooth should not look particularly different after preparation.

2. What about alternatives?

At your first visit, your dentist will walk you through your options and often make a recommendation.

At Battersea Smiles, we have your best interests in mind, so you’ll be able to make an informed decision with expert advice to help guide you.

For treating chipped, decayed, and crooked teeth, there are a couple of alternative treatment options.

Most commonly, you’ve got fillings and crowns:

  • Fillings may be recommended for minor repairs to the front teeth. But fillings only work when the surrounding tooth is able to support it.
  • In the case of more severe damage, a crown may be suggested. Crowns are typically used when teeth need to be strengthened.
